Nieuport 11 (Special Hobby 1:32)

Bonjour,

at the moment I am building (besides of several other ongoing projects) a Nieuport 11 from Special Hobby in 1:32 scale. The kit is very nice, but there are several places to improve the details provided with the kit.

I started this build several weeks ago, you can find the pics showing the first steps here if you like:

Les mats en bois! Classe ! and if you want, you can do a real wooden propeller. It's not so difficult to do.

Here is mine in a little piece of chestnut.

yes, the V-struts are real wood. Two parts of veneer sandwiched around 0.5mm wire.

Normally I make my own wooden props, here are some photos of my Axial for my Albatros D I:


Making wooden props is one of the modelling activities that I like most. But in this case I am still in doubt that I do a wooden prop. I need a Levasseur 450 which was like many French props -- that's one of the many things I learned from Xan -- painted a dark brown color overall. So no woodgrain was visible like here on the lower one:


The Levasseur prop causes me headache anyway as I have no idea yet how to make the "hélice Levasseur" markings on the prop...

And I painted the undersides. I finally made a decision how to paint the Nieuport: I will build Nieuport No. 871 from N.3 in April 1916 at Lemmes airfield. This bird had clear doped undersides

Finally I sprayed some camouflage color. I decided to orientate on the famous monochrome picture of No. 940, so I used three camouflage colors on my No. 871:

I used Vallejo and Scale 75 "Spanish Acrylics" this time for the camouflage and I must say that I am not happy how these paints get sprayed by airbrush. I love brushpainting them but for airbrushing I will return to my usual Tamiya/Gunze Acrylics. I will have to rework the fuselage markings as the white "N3" doesn't look like I want it to look.
